Co2 Fractional Laser Resurfacing

Co2 Fractional Laser Resurfacing (DOT Therapy)

Fractional Resurfacing is the newest and most widely accepted tool we have to fight aging and treat sun damage. Fractional resurfacing is a process that removes small to medium size wrinkles, sun damage, age spots, pigmented lesions, acne scars and some vascular lesions on the face, neck, chest and hands. It is an easy procedure that will allow minimal down time. This process gives great results for people who don’t want the expense, down time and pain of surgery.

This process removes most of the outer layer of skin (epidermis) leaving small islands of normal tissue. This accelerates the healing so most people only have little down time. Since the laser does not remove the entire epidermis, just a fraction of the epidermis, is where it gets its name—fractional resurfacing. This process will stimulate collagen growth so the full effect of the procedure will take 4 – 6 months to be seen. The increase in collagen provides a tighter, more firm skin.

Fractional resurfacing uses only topical anesthetics. After the procedure you will feel like you have an intense sun burn. This improves over a few hours and any discomfort is treated with over the counter medication. Within 2 or 3 days you will  have a bit of residual redness that can easily be covered with make up. The redness goes away in most people in 5 – 7 days. Most people only require one treatment but certain processes like acne and scars may require 2 or 3 treatments.  Dr. Mark S. Grimsley has been performing this procedure for several years and trains other physicians in CO2 technique and delivery.
